Promoting Your Organization on a Budget
If you are running a non-profit or new organization with limited funds it can sometimes be very difficult to get your name out there when you don’t have a large marketing budget to work with. If you want people to recognize your organization you will have to do some form of marketing and that can get quite costly. There are, however, ways to increase awareness of your organization without spending large sums of money.
Here are three creative ways to increase exposure of your organization with limited funds:
Guerilla marketing can be an inexpensive and creative way to introduce your organization’s brand to the masses. It’s also a great way to really make an impact in your local community and increase brand recognition.
Pros of Guerrilla Marketing
- Cheap to execute. Whether using a simple bumper sticker or a giant sticker, guerrilla marketing tends to be much cheaper than classic advertising.
- Allows for creative thinking. With guerrilla marketing, imagination is more important than budget.
- Grows with word-of-mouth. Guerrilla marketing relies heavily on word-of-mouth marketing, considered by many as one of the most powerful weapons in a marketer’s arsenal. There’s nothing better than getting people to talk about your campaign on their own accord.
- Publicity can snowball. Some especially noteworthy or unique guerrilla marketing campaigns will get picked up by local (and even national) news sources, resulting in a publicity powerhouse affect that marketers drool over.
Some great examples of guerilla marketing are publicity stunts – like flash mobs – or local treasure hunts or even creative marketing displays – stickers, posters, etc…
When planning an outdoor event to raise awareness of your organization it’s important that you find volunteers and ask friends to donate supplies if possible. This will help reduce costs while still allowing you to create a memorable event that helps spread the word about your organization and having fun at the same time.
Car washes are a very popular idea for fundraising but can also be a great way to promote a new organization.
Another great idea for an outdoor event is a BBQ at a local public park. Just make sure that you plan it in advance and obtain any city permits that you may need and spread the word ahead of time. It will help build trust with your local community, build brand awareness and fill some hungry bellies all at the same time.
Organize a Local Charity Event
While you might feel a little guilty about using a charitable event as a way to promote your organization, just remember that you’re still doing good in your local area nonetheless. Reach out to local non-profit organizations to find out how you could provide help. Possibly organizing a large yard sell where the local community donates their unwanted stuff which can then be sold and the profits given to a local charity.
Another idea would be to organize a clean-up crew to provide assistance with street cleanup in impoverished areas of the city – maybe even bring some donated gifts for the kids in the neighborhood.
There are a lot of great ways to bring awareness to your organization without having to spend a lot of money, you just have to be creative and open to ideas that may fall outside the box.
